I would like to thank the Indonesian Vascular Society for their kind invitation to speak at their annual conference (INAVASC XIII) in Semarang recently. I spoke on the role of the use of high-pressure non-compliant balloons for extreme lower limb angioplasty in the setting of chronic limb-threatening ischaemia. The arteries of diabetics below the knee and ankle are becoming more difficult to balloon because of the heavy calcification and the use of these specialised balloons like Jade from OrbusNeich has become more popular recently to minimise restenosis and recoil.
Also had the pleasure to speak at their Venous Forum on the use of microwave ablation for varicose veins. Interesting to see the gradual uptake of the new technology in Indonesia. I have found that its use is associated with a lower amount of post-operative bruising and pain compared to rfa and laser endovenous ablation.
