The VEC was delighted to be one of the first group of vascular surgeons to use the Medtronic 6fr Closurefast radiofrequency catheter. The newer lower profile device was able to negotiate a difficult tortuous great saphenous vein, which had exited the fascial plane in the mid thigh, which occurs more frequently in Asian patients and the catheter was able to pass without difficulty to just below the sapheno- femoral junction.
Even with a thinner profile the catheter was easily identified using ultrasound and the active part of the catheter is longer by 1 cm compared to the previous 7fr version allowing potential faster ablation time.
RFA ClosureFast is a medical device used for endovenous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to treat varicose veins. Here’s a brief overview:
What is RFA ClosureFast?
ClosureFast is a catheter-based device that uses radiofrequency energy to heat and close the affected vein, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins.
How does it work?
The device is inserted through a small incision and guided to the target vein. The catheter emits radiofrequency energy, heating the vein wall and causing it to collapse and close.
Key features:
- 6Fr catheter size (smaller than other RFA devices)
- Fast procedure time (about 30-60 minutes)
- Minimally invasive
- High success rate in closing the vein
Indications:
RFA ClosureFast is used to treat:
- Varicose veins
- Venous reflux disease
- Chronic venous insufficiency
Benefits:
- Quick recovery time
- Minimal scarring
- Reduced risk of complications
